Huffpo Writer (Peter Mehlman): At Least Hitler Meant Well--Unlike Bush

From Huffington Post, Peter Mehlman (Former Writer for Washington Post, writer and co-executive Producer for the tv series Seinfeld), the following article was written, but then pulled by Huffpost. Too late. Heh.

___________________________________________________________

Boy, America has had a lot of shitty presidents. Just take a stroll down repressed memory land and look at that police line-up from November 22, 1963 through January 1992. Ford may come out looking the best of the bunch and he was widely acknowledged to be unable to walk and chew gum. (Wisely, his advisors encouraged him to sit while chewing).

And really, Clinton could have been a lot better too.

So now we're six and a half years into Bush and everyone from Helen Thomas on down is declaring him the worst president ever. What no one is saying is the one overarching reason he's the worst: the Bush administration is the first that doesn't even mean well.

With the possible exception of immigration reform -- and who knows what grotesque financial incentive underlies that -- try to pinpoint even one policy motivated by the desire to lessen human suffering, to improve the life of citizens. Nothing. There is nothing.

As much as Democrats loathed Nixon, there was no denying he had some noble goals. He tried for universal health care and... I'm pretty sure there were other things.

As much as Republicans loathed Clinton, they had to know he cared about people. Amazing how his "I feel your pain" quality became such a disdainful joke. That sounds like a good quality in a president.

Even with the low poll numbers, liberals still feel stymied in conveying just how bad this administration is. It's been the ultimate frustration to consider the people who don't see Bush's malevolence: In 2004, rural America cited national security as their number one reason for voting for Bush. But people in the major cities, where there's actually a chance of being victimized by terrorism, people voted against Bush. Frustrating. In the cities, where most people are utterly at two with nature, people cited Bush's raping of the environment as a major reason to vote against him. In rural America, where people fish and hunt and generally do things outside, they voted for Bush. Sooooo frustrating. On Sutton Place and in Harvard-Westlake, where kids go to college after high school, they vote against Bush. In rural America, from where the majority of tragically killed kids in Iraq soldiers come, they vote for Bush.

You could argue that even the world's worst fascist dictators at least meant well. They honestly thought were doing good things for their countries by suppressing blacks/eliminating Jews/eradicating free enterprise/repressing individual thought/killing off rivals/invading neighbors, etc. Only the Saudi royal family is driven by the same motives as Bush, but they were already entrenched. Bush set a new precedent. He came into office with the attitude of "I'm so tired of the public good. What about my good? What about my rich friends' good?"

How can anyone not see it? It's not that their policies have been misguided or haven't played out right. They. Don't. Even. Mean. Well.

Franz: You know, not many people knew it, but the Führer was a terrific dancer.
Max: Really? I never dreamed that...
Franz: (now shouting with rage) That is because you were taken in by that verdammte Allied propaganda! Such filthy lies! They told lies! But nobody ever said a bad word about Winston Churchill, did they? No! "Win with Winnie!" Churchill! With his cigars, with his brandy. And his ROTTEN painting! Rotten! Hitler, THERE was a painter! He count paint an entire apartment in one afternoon! TWO COATS! Churchill. He couldn't even say "Nazi". He would say "Nooooozeeehz, Nooooozeeehz!" It wasn't NOSES, it was NAZIS! Churchill!
Max: Exactly why...
Franz: Let me tell you THIS! And you're hearing this straight from the horse - Hitler was better looking than Churchill. He was a better dresser than Churchill. He had more hair! He told funnier jokes! And he could dance the PANTS off of Churchill!
Max Bialystock: Yes, yes! Churchill. That's exactly why we want to produce this play. To show the world the true Hitler, the Hitler you loved, the Hitler you knew, the Hitler with a song in his heart.

UPDATE: It seems that the offending post was put back on Huffington Post:

More Deceit From Media Matters

Deceit may be a harsh word. In this post I document how "Media Matters" gets it wrong about Rush Limbaugh. Their mistake was using FAIR as a source.

Well, again they use FAIR as a source to criticize Rush Limbaugh, little knowing that FAIR is deliberately being deceitful.

It revolves around a radio broadcast that Rush made in 1994. Now, being a daily listener at the time, I was listening to that particular program as it occured. Rumors were swirling around about what really happened to Vince Foster. And some moron tried to mislead Limbaugh by sending him a fax. He read the fax on the air, but later derided the fax as a phony (Rush: "I'll give you ten to one odds that this fax is a fake!")

However, FAIR, and consequently Media Matters, leaves that part of Rush's broadcast out of their reports. Thereby taking it completely out of context and lying by ommission.

Media Matters:

according to a report by the national media watch group Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR):

On his March 10 radio broadcast, Limbaugh had announced the following in urgent tones:

OK, folks, I think I got enough information here to tell you about the contents of this fax that I got. Brace yourselves. This fax contains information that I have just been told will appear in a newsletter to Morgan Stanley sales personnel this afternoon. ... What it is is a bit of news which says ... there's a Washington consulting firm that has scheduled the release of a report that will appear, it will be published, that claims that Vince Foster was murdered in an apartment owned by Hillary Clinton, and the body was then taken to Fort Marcy Park.

After he returned from a commercial break, Limbaugh began referring to the story as a "rumor," but continued to claim that the story was that "the Vince Foster suicide was not a suicide."

Ah, they acknowledge that Rush refered to the story as a rumor, but neglect to mention that Rush derided the fax, and the story as a hoax. Rush's major point overall was how the Clintons could put all these rumors to rest if they just came forward and told the truth. But they would not. Instead stonewalling, lying, and obstructing any attempts to investigate what really happened. Their actions only caused the rumors to multiply and swell up.

Barbara Ehrenreich On Illegal Aliens

Barbara Ehrenreich has much to say on the issue of illegal aliens. Her piece is titled: "What America Owes its 'Illegals'"

This part of her article stood out to me:

"All right, they committed a "crime"--the international equivalent of breaking and entry. But breaking and entry is usually a prelude to a much worse crime, like robbery or rape. What have the immigrants been doing once they get into the US?"

Try robbery, rape, human trafficking, child molestations AND murder, just to name a few, Barbara.

CARMEL, N.Y. - Two day laborers have been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for drowning a drinking buddy over beer money.

Augustin Perez, 46, and Manuel Perez, 25, were sentenced Wednesday in the killing of Esmaraldo Salazar, 33, whose body was found floating in the Croton River in Brewster last November.

The three men were living in an encampment in the woods outside Brewster.

MAGNOLIA, Texas -- An illegal immigrant confessed to sexually assaulting 13 children when police responded to an emergency medical call after he slit his wrist, police said.

Mauricio Ojeda, 29, remained jailed Wednesday on a charge of indecency with a child after telling police about the assaults when they responded to the call at his house April 29.

Magnolia Police Chief Ronald Cunningham said Ojeda had self-inflicted cuts on his wrist and no pulse when they arrived. Ojeda was revived by medical personnel and said he had been "a bad boy" and had assaulted 13 children who had lived in the house with him, Cunningham said.

Man confesses to molesting 13 children after slitting wrist

A judge refused Wednesday to drop child molestation charges against an illegal Mexican immigrant who argued Clayton County police violated diplomatic law during the arrest.

Eligio Chia-Duran, 30, alleged a violation of the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, an international treaty adopted by the United States, because arresting officers failed to tell Chia-Duran he had the right to contact the Mexican embassy in Atlanta.

Chia-Duran is charged with aggravated battery and aggravated child molestation involving the then-8-month-old daughter of his girlfriend. The mother, Fabiola Delgado Mata, 20, also is charged. The baby, who is paralyzed from the waist down because of injuries allegedly inflicted by Chia-Duran, is in state custody.

Illegal immigrant fails to sway judge in sex case

Two Brazilian nationals pleaded guilty yesterday to charges of human trafficking and illegal immigration for running a vile Burlington-based prostitution ring. The convictions come as part of an aggressive federal crackdown on sexual slavery, officials said.

Documents in U.S. District Court in Boston depict a house of horrors and intimidation run out of the Lord Baron apartment complex by Vanessa Guedes Lopes, 25, and Raphael Eller Mello, 27.

Each faces life in prison for forcing 11 illegal immigrant women to have sex with johns from Boston’s suburbs to Providence from July 2004 to February 2006. They are to be sentenced in September.

The Illegal-Alien Crime Wave

It is hard to fathom how anyone could bury an axe in the head of an innocent nine-year-old boy, but that was the unimaginable fate of Jordin Paulder of Fulton County, Georgia, on June 5. The killer was "Honduran native" Santos Benigno Cabrera Borjas.

A Clear Cut Case Of Media Bias

This from MSNBC:

Republicans abandoning Bush-NBC/WSJ poll: President’s, Congress’ ratings drop to lowest levels ever

Now, I don't doubt for a minute that this poll is accurate (well, as accurate as an NBC poll can get, considering that they oversample democrats), and that the story is true. But my point is that it's quite obvious how MSNBC, among other liberal MSM outlets, just LOVES to report this sort of bad news about the President and his polling numbers.

When was the last time they, or the rest of the liberal media, wrote a story with a title such as: "Democrats abandoning (insert name of Democrat leader here)"?

I did a google search and found this:

Results 1 - 10 of about 2,260 for "republicans abandoning"

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,390 for "republicans abandoning bush".

But for "Democrats abandoning"?

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,400 for "democrats abandoning". (which brings up alot of bloggers right at the top, and not many mainstream news sources)

But when it comes to doing a search of "Democrats abandoning (name of democrat leaders)", either pelosi, reid, clinton (both hillary and bill), etc? ZERO results.

Now, dont tell me that the media could not find any Democrats who are disappointed with their own leadership in one way or the other. I see them on the internet all the time.

Speaking Of Stupid....

Over at Myleftwing.com, they have on their "Tuesday Open Thread" (May 8, 2007), this quote from John Stuart Mill: "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives."

Underneath that they have a pic of Mill, and under that they have the following words (which provides a link to a biography of Mill on wiki):

-- John Stuart Mill
Died May 8, 1806

Problem with that is John Stuart Mills was BORN on May 20, 1806 and died on May 8, 1873.
