Media matters lists this as a smear:

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 does not mention ACORN or otherwise single it out for funding. ACORN itself has said that it is ineligible for the funds and has no plans to apply for them.

Media matters uses both Acorn and huffingtonpost as well as itself as sources to prove it was a smear:

ACORN itself has said that it is ineligible for the funds and has no plans to apply for them. After House Minority Leader John Boehner's (R-OH) office issued press releases claiming that the recovery bill "makes groups like ACORN eligible for a $4.19 billion pot of money for 'neighborhood stabilization activities,' " ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis stated in a press release that "[w]e have not received neighborhood stabilization funds, have no plans to apply for such funds, and didn't weigh in on the pending rule changes." On January 29, Lewis wrote at the Huffington Post: "[L]et's be clear. ACORN isn't getting any of this money. Since it is set aside for non-profit housing developers to help purchase, rehab, and resell foreclosed properties, we aren't eligible for it in the first place." The final irony is that the media matters article was posted on September 17th and the washington examiner article is dated September 14.

Hurting the GOP

As a lifelong Republican, it is distressing to see the power that Rush Limbaugh wields over my party. How will it be possible for bipartisan leadership to take hold when you have such a bad influence holding my party hostage?

Democrats are our worthy competition, not our enemies.

I know many fellow GOP stalwarts who are sick and tired of party-first and ideology-first politics. Rush is hoping for President Barack Obama to fail in his efforts to clean up the economic mess that, quite honestly, our party had a lot to do with creating.

That so many cheer his ultra-conservative jihad is deeply troubling.

It is indeed possible to be so far right that you become wrong. Too far left is no better, but Obama is more balanced than that.

Let's ditch the conservative vs. liberal labeling and posturing and really try bipartisanship. This doesn't mean we'll always get our way.

Let's come together as Americans, and honestly face the limits of any type of "my way or the highway" thinking.

My son, who is in 1st grade, came home yesterday saying that he didn't want to go back to school anymore. So I asked him why? He said that during the Pledge of Allegiance the teacher put up a large image of Obama next to the flag. I asked him if he was sure of this and I suggested to him that maybe the teacher just put up an 8x10 photo of the president. He said, "No, it is a large picture of Obama and when we are done Ms. **** turns off the image." I also asked if they did this for Bush last year? He again said, "No." This was my sons first day back to school since before Christmas, he was on a 5 week track break.

My wife volunteers a couple of days each week with helping out with my sons teacher doing various duties. She said that she would come in early this morning to see what was going on. She just got back and reported that this was true and then some. She said she waited out in the pod area and could see inside 3 of the 5 class rooms in this section of school. She said that when the kids stand each teacher flips on the classroom overhead and a full body image of Obama, with six U.S. flags behind him, comes up about 4 feet away from the flag that hangs on the wall. She said that the image has Obama staring straight at you with no facial expressions, just a serious look. I asked my wife if Obama had his hand over his heart? She said that she was so taken aback by this that she didn't see it. What is worse is she said that all of the kids in each class faced Obama instead of the flag that hangs in the corner.

What the heck is going on?

Guys and gals, I need some advise on how to approach this. I can be somewhat hot headed so I need to plan accordingly with what to say to the principal when we go in to inquire about this. I am sure I will be brushed off so what is my next step? Obviously it will be the school district but then who? ACLU, Veteran groups, Christian groups? Who would be interested in this vile activity?

This is happening in the Clark County School District here in Las Vegas, Henderson area

First, I want to thank you all for your thoughts and ideas on this troubling situation. The response was very encouraging and it has been very uplifting to know that we are not alone.

My wife and I prayed that God give us guidance and encouragement in whatever path he takes us. We prayed long and hard if my wife should show up this morning with our camera to take video of this activity. We both agreed that we needed to follow whatever rules or laws concerning video taping of children in a classroom setting without permission so we decided it was best not to go that route. We just did not know if this was violating any privacy laws. We also wanted to respect the parents who might find their children unwillingly on Youtube. I know I would not want that without us knowing it.

So were does this stand now? We decided that it was best to give the pricipal a chance to explain what was going on. So after school today we went down there and waited for about 45 minutes and finally the Vice Principal came out and suggested that we speak with our childs teacher. It seemed that the office became dead silent and all eyes were on us so I asked that we speak privately. So reluctantly he took us into the conference room and asked us what was going on? I asked if he was aware of this image of Obama being shown to the kids and he said yes and that it was something new that they started this week. I asked if he thought this to a bit Orweallian to him and his facial expressions said it all. He then nodded saying, "yeah, it does seem...you know this could be easily fixed!" He then asked if the children were facing Obama during the reciting? My wife chummed in and said that when she was here Tuesday she saw a 5th grade class face Obama and NOT the flag. He said, "Well they shouldn't be, they are supposed to honor and respect the flag." I then asked,"Why are the lights being turned off in the classroom? You can't see the flag but you can definetly see Obama. I added that this goes against flag etiquette. I then suggested that this is wrong and is a distraction and that it needs to be shut down. I further said that we did not do this for Bush (I then told him that I was not a Bush fan) and I would even be upset if you had an image of Jesus showing. It is almost like forced indoctrination. I then asked if this was school wide or district wide? He replied, "one of the teachers thought of it and so we tried it just here at this school, it is not district wide. But let me to try to solve this, okay?" I then asked for the district superintendant name and number? The vp again asked that they solve this first and that he would call the principal tonight and that they would take care of this first thing in the morning. We agreed and that was that. I do want to say that the vp was very polite and cordial and seemed concerned. We will see??

I guess if this doesn't stop tomorrow then the wife and I are prepared to go forward. I do believe in giving people a chance to correct any wrong doings. A part of me wished that I held off on making my original post yesterday until this could be addressed properly and then the other side of me said that this needed to be shouted out from the roof tops so everyone can see and hear what is going on. However, it is what it is and God put it in our lap and I am thankful!

I would like to add that my wife is asian and that she came from a country that if you questioned the leader you were a target. When this came up she became scared and angry at the same time. She said that it was hard coming over hear and becoming a U.S. citizen and that she is PROUD to be an AMERICAN! What a woman, huh!!

However, reality has a tendency to get in the way of press events for Citgo and Citizens Energy Corporation such as the scenes of Joe Kennedy driving up to house in a Citgo truck to deliver 40% cheaper heating oil from his “not-for-profit energy company.” The last thing anyone involved in this program wants is for someone to look behind the curtain.

First, Citizens Energy Corporation is not the organization that is directly involved with the program. Rather, one has to first look to a holding company, which is a for-profit and wholly owned subsidiary of Citizens Energy’s called Citizens Enterprises Corporation: first, eighty-six percent of Mr. Kennedy’s over $400,000 annual salary comes from this organization. Second, among the nine companies that it manages is Citizens Program Corporation, which directly handles the Citgo heating oil program. This company went from having almost no assets in 2004 to recording the purchase and later sale of over two million dollars worth of oil in 2005. Then in the first half of 2006 they managed to buy over ten million dollars in oil which they sold for over sixteen million dollars.

However there’s a problem with the math in these deals. According to Citgo 40 million gallons of oil went to help 181,000 households last year, however Citizens Energy claims it was 170,000 households. Now if you take the average cost of home heating oil (which was $2.43 per gallon), and the amount of $6,463,078 that Citizens Programs Corporation claimed to have spent on this program, the greatest number of gallons they could have been provided was 2,657,702. This is significantly less than the forty million gallons Citgo claims to have provided. If this amount was supplied to the 170,000 families that Kennedy claims to have helped, it would mean that each of those homes would have received only 15.6 gallons (or 14.6 gallons if Citgo is to be believed).

Here's a relevation for you: You're a liar. You saw that description of events somewhere on the net, assumed it was true, and invented this lie of having heard it yourself. And if that wasnt enough, you concocted another lie about that being the pivotal moment when you stopped listening.

Limbaugh NEVER called Chelsea ugly. The incident in question occured on his (now defunct) tv show, not his radio show, and it occured in the early 90s (92 to be exact). Not mid 90s.

Its amazing how many people who hate limbaugh at the time claimed that they would never watch his show, (same way they now claim to never watch Fox news), then years later claim that they not only saw Rush's show, but saw that incident in question (transcript is available at lexis nexis), and then on top of that also claim that was the first or last time they watched the show. What a coinky dink! I wish I had a nickel for every phony lying liberal who claimed this. (and when pressed for futher details to prove they saw the show, they all give wildly varying descriptions...none of which are accurate).

In an acting troupe that included Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, and Al Pacino, the person who stood out more than any other in the Theatre Company of Boston during the 1960s was Paul Benedict. The long-jawed actor who found a touch of menace in the most comic parts and a touch of the absurd in the most serious roles, was found dead Monday at 70 of unknown causes on Martha's Vineyard.

Mr. Benedict, who also acted locally with the American Repertory Theatre, would have his own share of success on television and in the movies, playing the English neighbor Harry Bentley on the CBS series "The Jeffersons" from 1975 to 1985. He also appeared in the Christopher Guest comedies "This Is Spinal Tap," "Waiting for Guffman," and "A Mighty Wind."

Many believe that Barack Obama chose Joe Biden for his running mate to address a profound weakness on foreign policy. Power Line points out an example of the Biden prowess on foreign relations that first appeared in The New Republic’s profile of Biden from October 2001. In a vignette at the end of the article, Biden ponders mightily over how the US should respond to 9/11:

At the Tuesday-morning meeting with committee staffers, Biden launches into a stream-of-consciousness monologue about what his committee should be doing, before he finally admits the obvious: “I’m groping here.” Then he hits on an idea: America needs to show the Arab world that we’re not bent on its destruction. “Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran,” Biden declares. He surveys the table with raised eyebrows, a How do ya like that? look on his face.

The staffers sit in silence. Finally somebody ventures a response: “I think they’d send it back.” Then another aide speaks up delicately: “The thing I would worry about is that it would almost look like a publicity stunt.” Still another reminds Biden that an Iranian delegation is in Moscow that very day to discuss a $300 million arms deal with Vladimir Putin that the United States has strongly condemned. Colin Powell got all the airtime, sure, but his isn’t the only Barack Obama endorsement worth talking about lately. There was Ali Larijani, for example, the Hezbollah- and Hamas-supporting speaker of Iran’s parliament, who voiced Iran’s preference for a “more flexible and rational” Obama over John McCain — not that he got what you could call a media roll-out. Nor did America’s own anti-white, anti-Jewish Louis Farrakhan, who recently heralded an Obama presidency as the coming age of the “the Messiah.” There was a newsflash for fluffy-con endorsements at home and abroad, arcing and sputtering on a thin mix of elitism and naivete, but virtually no one seems to have noticed an Obama endorsement that came in from the National Association of Muslim American Women (NAMAW).

Big yawn? Hardly. In its endorsement, the Columbus-based Muslim women’s group described itself as “pro-family” and “pro-life.” But, given the record of NAMAW chairwoman and CEO Anisa Abd el Fattah, it is also pro-Hamas.

As Patrick Poole has reported, Fattah has published Hamas-ian writings contending, for example, that Zionism “violates ... every norm of decency known to the human species.” Fattah has also co-authored two books with Hamas spokesman and chief political adviser Ahmed Yousef (”The Agent: The Truth Behind the Anti-Muslim Campaign in America and Al-Aqsa Intifada”). And yes, that would be the same Ahmed Yousef, who, on behalf of Hamas, endorsed Barack Obama back in April.

Both Fattah and Yousef (who fled the country in 2005 to avoid prosecution in the terrorism-related Fawaz Damra trial) used to work for the United Association for Studies and Research (UASR), an innocuously named organization founded by Hamas chieftain Mousa abu Marzook that has been described as “the political command of Hamas in the United States.” The UASR, along with an interlocking network of Islamic organizations, has been designated by the government as both an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terror-financing trial, and an affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian-founded organization that seeks to install the Sharia (Islamic law) worldwide. Other groups so designated include the Muslim American Society (MAS), which the government said was “founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States,” and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), of which Fattah, it so happens, was a founding board member. (Fattah, according to her online biography, as Poole has noted, also helped develop the American Muslim Council, which was founded by convicted terrorist financier Abdurahman Alamoudi.)

Earlier this month, several news organizations reported that Minha Husaini, the Obama campaign director of Muslim outreach, participated in a non-advertised September meeting in hotly contested Virginia with about 30 Muslim leaders. Among them were Nihad Awad of CAIR and Mahdi Bray of MAS — both leaders of groups the government has designated as unindicted co-conspirators and Muslim Brotherhood affiliates. Also present was Johari Abdul Malik, the imam of Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque, aka “the 9/11 mosque” because two of the 9/11 hijackers worshipped there. (So did Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, an Al Qaeda member now serving a 30-year sentence for plotting to assassinate President Bush, and also Hamas chieftain and UASR founder Mousa abu Marzook.)

The Obama campaign has pleaded ignorance concerning the September meeting, with campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt telling NBC News producer Jim Popkin that campaign staffers, including Husaini, wouldn’t have “attended if they were aware of the complete list of attendees.” The campaign had no comment on Asbahi’s presence, and, oddly, wouldn’t allow reporters speak with Muslim outreach director Husaini.

What are voters to make of this? Did Obama campaign staffers abandon the event on learning who was there? The meeting went on as scheduled. Did the campaign later denounce these controversial, to say the least, groups in media statements? Apparently not. One unidentified meeting participant told Popkin that “some in the Obama group knew ahead of time that top CAIR officials would be in attendance,” adding: “There was some hope it wouldn’t get out” into the media.

That, of course, should never have concerned a campaign for whom media scrutiny resembles cupcake frosting. But “out” it is, thanks to a few journalists still on the job. If any questions remain, though, they are questions voters will have to answer for themselves.

Georgia Mentally Challenged Man Has Vote Stolen

Today, WALB-TV news (NBC affiliate) in Albany and Valdosta, Georgia reported the story of Jack Justice and his family. Justice, a mentally challenged man who visits an adult daycare was taken to vote by a yet-to-be-publicly identified “aid.” The rule at the adult daycare is that a permission slip must be signed for Justice to leave the facility. No permission slip was provided or signed. But that’s not the really sad part.

This aid signs an oath at the Dougherty County election office that they will cast the vote the way the adult daycare participant wants. However, this aid wouldn’t cast Justice’s vote for McCain and made the vote go to Obama.

I strongly recommend that the Ohio Republican Party get on the case before it’s too late. Today’s the last day to challenge voters who registered early in Ohio before the run up to Election Day.

Here’s the stench: An entire houseful of young, non-Ohioan Democrat activists have used the Brownlee Avenue address to register themselves to vote in the Buckeye State and secure absentee ballots under extremely shady circumstances — all while mobilizing a large effort to register thousands of others for absentee and early voting. The activists are leaders of a group called “Vote From Home ‘08.” The group is self-identified as having “extensive experience with political organizing, election administration, and Democratic politics.” They were hailed as the “Justice League” by a Daily Kos blogger. Their Facebook page brags: “Want to turn the Presidential election blue in a key swing state? Vote from Home is a political organization that was founded by a team of young people for the purpose of assisting, aiding, and tracking voters to elect progressive candidates to the White House. Encouraged by the excitement of the 2008 elections and the movement around the Democratic candidates, Vote From Home will be in Ohio seeking to deliver 10,000 votes to Democratic candidates statewide.”

My friends at Palestra.net, a network of young reporters who have been doing the voter and registration fraud reporting that the MSM has been slow to do, have a breaking investigative report on how several members of the Democrat Vote From Home team — all Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, and Truman Scholars studying abroad — are turning up on Franklin County voter rolls despite having no bona fide residence in Ohio and admittedly having little to no knowledge about the state before descending on it in August to sign up other new voters in a rush to put 10,000 Obama supporters on the rolls.

It's time to recognize a basic fact: We are in a civil war. It is obviously not the civil war of pitched battles and 600,000 dead. It is a low-grade—but omnipresent—political and social conflict, and though it is not an open war, it does involve violence.

Of course, only one side is fighting it as a war. The left sees every area of society as a battleground, and they will use any and every tactic at their disposal—including violence—to achieve their aims.

This is, of course, nothing new, and before we can talk about recent violence and other criminal events—and the possibility of a dramatic escalation thereof—we have to take a quick look at history.

Using a bird's-eye view of American history, one sees a disturbing trend: The Democrats and the left (once different, now synonymous) have been waging a civil war against Republicans since the end of the last one in 1865.

This is great. These are episodes of the tv series Life of Riley. William Bendix is known for the role, but Jackie Gleason played the role first from 1949-1950. An interesting look at television from 1949!

I havent seen these episodes since the mid-1980s when I got my very first VCR. At the time, the local tv station (channel 11, WPIX, if I recall correctly) aired these shows on the weekdays, but only at 5:30am. So I taped them while I slept. Unfortunately, I had to eventually tape over them as at the time I couldnt afford to buy more and more videocassettes. So I had to reuse the ones I had.

William Bendix played Chester A. Riley in the 1949 movie version, but couldnt do the tv version due to he couldnt get out of his movie contract. So, for the first year, Jackie Gleason played the role. However, it was also taken off the air and not brought back untill 1953. By that time William Bendix was able to do the show, which he did from 1953-58.

This article from the liberally biased "The Saint Petersburg Times" in Florida is about fence sitters who are now voting for Obama.

The article opens:

Five weeks ago, the St. Petersburg Times convened a group of Tampa Bay voters who were undecided about the presidential election. Their strong distrust of Barack Obama suggested it was a group ripe for John McCain to win over.

Not anymore. The group has swung dramatically, if unenthusiastically, toward Democrat Obama. Most of them this week cited the same reason: Sarah Palin.

Among the fence sitters is a man named Donn Spegal who is identified as a lifelong Republican:

"The one thing that frightens me more than anything else are the ideologues. We've seen too many," said 80-year-old Air Force veteran Donn Spegal, a lifelong Republican from St. Petersburg, who sees McCain's new running mate as the kind of "wedge issue" social conservative that has made him disenchanted with his party.

As a Republican and strong McCain supporter in 2000, I was disappointed and saddened in 2004 when McCain permanently traded in his maverick credentials and sold out his principles to support George W. Bush. I now find it equally disturbing to see him gamble our security and future with a reckless choice for a running mate.
Gov. Sarah Palin clearly has a bright future in politics. She may even have the depth and diversity of experience to be a vice-presidential candidate four years from now.

The McCain ticket, with all of its newfound “freshness” and despite all of the claims, has quickly devolved into the politics-as-usual that we have come to expect in the last eight years. McCain and Palin quickly emerged from the rhetoric of their convention as the uniters of dividers.

I talk politics with a lot of people from all walks of life. I find it compelling that many of the ordinary Republicans I talk to understand that their families cannot afford another four years like the last eight. We all deserve better.

Barack Obama was campaigning in Ohio making a speech on Education. According to this blog, he was introduced to the crowd by one Gregory Tucker from Centerville:

Then Gregory Tucker from Centerville came out to introduce Obama. He talked about his high school son and how he had coached the son’s team in a science build competition. Then he told everyone he was a lifelong Republican who was voting for Obama because he had a vision for the future.

Well, according to the Ohio voter registration records, he voted in the following elections:

This time it's Ohio State University Associate Registrar Jack Miner.

Over at the Irregular Times blog, Jim, an obama supporter recorded the following speech from Jim Miner:

Most of you know me because of Ohio State, but a lot of you also know me because I’ve been a lifelong Republican. I’ve been pretty active over the years for the Republican Party, enough said. In this election, my family, my community and the nation can’t afford four more years of the same thing.

So this is the year that I know I’m heading out of the party and I’m supporting Obama. That’s become even more clear the past couple of days where I’m almost embarrassed to say I that used to be a Republican based on the ticket they’ve put together. So if you think about not just a heartbeat, but — not a strong heartbeat away from the presidency, we can’t afford to have someone who’s not strong in foreign relations, who’s not strong with domestic policy, and really has no experience. We can’t afford the Republicans.

Well, there was that red flag again. The phrase "lifelong republican". All I had to do was do a little search in the Ohio voter registration records which reveals he's currentlly a registered Democrat, and yes has voted as a Republican, but also has voted as a Dem a couple of times already (plus has donated 250 bucks to the Hillary Clinton Presidential campaign back in March 2008).

So this is a recent decision, Mr. Miner?

The first "R" he voted as was in the March 2000 primarary. and so on down the line. I do not know what the "X" stands for. (unafilliated? Independent? Didnt vote at all?). Nor do I know what the extra commas are for. Perhaps he skipped over voting in an election? This is kind of hard to decipher, but what is clear is that he has voted Dem before. So its laughable to listen to him say "this is the year that I know I’m heading out of the party", when its obvious he has "headed out of" the party before. And twice as laughable for him to refer to himself as a lifelong Republican. This is no "lifelong Republican".

Over at the Irregular Times, the poster "Jim" who recorded the audio and posted it at IT, ends his post with this:

Lifelong Republicans have had enough.

Yeah, what we have had enough of is the Obama supporting phony baloney "lifelong Republicans". Would it kill them to stop pretending to be something they are not? And to just come out and say "I'm a Democrat and I'm supporting Barack Obama?". To be honest with themselves and the rest of the world?

Apparently a "community organizer" named Bishop Roy Dixon from southern California has taken issue with Sarah Palin's remarks regarding community organizers: "a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities".

Here is Bishop Dixon's comment:

As a life-long Republican, the comments I heard last night about community organizing crossed the line. It is one thing to question someone’s experience, another to demean the work of millions of hard working Americans who take time to get involved in their communities. When people come together in my church hall to improve our community, they’re building the Kingdom of God in San Diego. We see the fruits of community organizing in safer streets, new parks, and new affordable housing. It’s the spirit of democracy for people to have a say and we need more of it,”

As I've said before, real Republicans almost never refer to themselves as a "lifelong republican". So when Bishop Roy Dixon said that, it made me suspicious and I went to Newsmeat where I found the following (Roy Dixon was an owner of 12 Taco Bell restaurants before he became a Bishop. It seems we MIGHT have another phony "lifelong Republican".

Here on the Barack Obama campaign blogging pages. This one from a woman named Chayah Masters. On her blogging page she says: "Observations from a Republican turned Democrat as of Sarah Palin's acceptance speech" (click on pic for larger image):

In her two first blogging posts on the Barack Obama blogger/community site she says:

"As a lifelong Republican (until now)" and then, "As a former Republican, I can't tell you how often I've heard Dems called the "bleeding heart" party by Republicans I knew."

(As an actual Republican, I cant recall any time my fellow Republicans refered to the Dems as the "bleeding heart party", and I can't recall my fellow Republicans refering to themselves as "lifelong Republicans")

And, on her profile page of her corner on the Barack Obama blogger/community site, she has the following (click on pic for larger image):

Note she claims to have voted Republican for every election since she was 18, was a Republican up untill the time Sarah Palin made her speech (at the Republican convention, just yesterday, September 3). And that she voted for Senator Obama in the primary.

Problem: California has a peculiar type of "open/closed primary" system.

Here is what this site says about that:

Open primaries (or pick-a-party) are those in which voters of any affiliation may vote for the slate of any party.

Closed primaries are those in which only the voters affiliated with a party may vote in its primary.

Blanket primaries (or "jungle primaries") are those in which voters, regardless of affiliation, may choose the party primary in which they want to vote on an office-by-office basis. The blanket primary was struck down in 2001 by the Supreme Court in CA Democratic Party v. Jones.

California: Parties may allow voters who decline to state their party affiliation to participate in their primaries. Democrats currently allow registered Democrats and independents to vote in their primary. Republicans currently have a closed primary.

Here is the website for the California state government in which they explain their primary system, and here is an excerpt:

Two qualified political parties filed the requisite statement notifying the Secretary of State that they adopted a party rule permitting unaffiliated voters to request their party ballot in the February 5, 2008 Presidential Primary Election to participate in the primary election for partisan offices:

American Independent Party, letter dated August 23, 2007

Which means that the only way that she could have voted for Obama in the primary is if she was a registered Democrat, or Independent (or unafilliated). Republicans cannot vote in the Democrat primaries in California (and vice-versa).

Oh, and note that last part I underlined in which she indicates that she's not registered to vote!!! Is that a mistake? Or did she accidentally tell the truth? If it's the truth, then how could she have voted for anyone? How could she have voted for any Republican and/or in the Presidential primary? And if it is a mistake, then how could she, a "lifelong Republican" up untill Sarah Palin's speech, vote for Barack Obama in the primary?

One last note, in her diatribe about the nomination of Sarah Palin, she writes the following:

All this bluster coming from the Republicans is rather obnoxious considering it took them so long to open their minds to supporting a female candidate for a top political slot nevermind VP.

On Thursday night in Denver, when he introduced Barack Obama, he claimed to be a "lifelong" Republican. But it looks like the Democrats lied about his affiliation, or at minimum never took the time to check him out.

[F]ormer Joyce Foundation board member Barack Obama has secured yet another faux Second Amendment supporter in “lifelong Republican” Tony Dean, a long-time host of hunting and fishing television shows in South Dakota. Dean told the Dallas News he’s switching parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group.

A “lifelong Republican” that is “switching parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group”?

This is an interesting claim, given that Dean was mentioned by the Rapid City Journal in 2003 as a “possible Democratic candidate for Congress” who endorsed Democrat Senator Tim Johnson for reelection just a year earlier. Dean’s efforts to draw gun owners to Johnson weren’t enough, and Johnson’s Republican challenger, John Thune, became a U.S. Senator from South Dakota. According to public records, Dean donated money to another anti-gun South Dakota Democrat, Tom Daschle, also in 2003.

For Tony Dean to have “switch[ed] parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group” he would have to have done so at least two years before Obama was even elected to Senate, and five years prior to he announced his presidential bid. Indeed, it appears the word “lifelong” is as difficult for Dean and the Obama campaign to define as the word “is” is to Bill Clinton.

Dean is quoted by the Dallas News as saying he’s “99 percent sure a President Obama isn’t going to infringe on gun rights.” But seeing as Mr. Dean, who at least one blogger has been dubbed ‘South Dakota’s Al Gore’ because of his fervent belief in human-cause global warming, describes himself as a “moderate on the gun issue” who “opposes the NRA on most gun issues,” his assurances about Obama aren’t likely to be much consolation to pro-gun voters.

"Fahey, a lifelong Republican who is now an ardent Obama supporter"

Yet here is an article from 2000 which describes this "lifelong republican" back then as an "independent":

Which brings me to today's New York Post, I read the following letter to the editor from Carl Hafner of Copiague, NY (the online edition does not have his town listed alongside his name, but the print edition does):

As far as I'm concerned, she is a sick individual, as well as her family for having a trophy pile of antlers of dead animals as a decoration outside of their home.

Maybe if Palin spent more quality time with her children, instead of hunting innocent creatures, she would not be involved with a messy family pregnancy drama right now.

I was raised a Republican by my parents and have been a proud Republican all my life. However, for the first time in my 51 years, I will vote Democratic this election.

What with so many people masquerading as "lifelong Republicans" these days, and since no real life lifelong Republican describes themselves as such, I got a little suspicious and did some searching in the New York voter registration database. And guess what? Carl Hafner is not a Republican as he claims. He has no party listed as a matter of fact ("Not enrolled in a party"). Color me shocked that we have another liar on our hands here.

The initial offering may have been only 22,000 or so shares, but according to a Yahoo news item: Item 8.01. Other Events.

On June 19, 2007, the Company issued a press release announcing that the underwriters of the Company’s initial public offering have elected to exercise in full their option to purchase an additional 1,500,000 shares of the Company’s common stock to cover over-allotments. A copy of the press release is attached as Exhibit 99.1 to this report and is incorporated herein by reference.

This means that Pelosi could have purchased around 20,000 shares at $3.86, or $50,000 to $100,000 worth, which are now worth 300% more than their original value.

Nancy Pelosi says that she is trying to save the planet and prevent global warming, but the reality is that, according to disclosure statements, in May 2007 she invested in T. Boone Picken’s clean energy fuels corp., CLNE, which is the sole sponsor of a proposal in California to funnel $5 billion in state funds and $5 billion in Federal funs to this corporation which will indirectly help them create a giant wind farm in the Texas panhandle.

An overlooked story in November of 2007 shows that the T. Boone Pickens plan involves the private control of water, which Pickens wants to be able to sell to big cities via giant water pipelines which will be built on land seized under eminent domain.

How did he do this? He did this by pushing through a “water district” which consists of only 8 acres of land and then applying eminent domain to expand that district and seize land from local ranchers which, in the end, puts vital water resources under his private control.

The Sierra Club, which you might think has an opinion that means something to Nancy Pelosi who just wants to “save the world”, had this to say, “We have real concerns about private control of water,” said Ken Kramer, director of the Texas Sierra Club. “Water is a resource, yet in some respects it is a commodity. It’s as essential to human life as air. That puts water in a different class.”

Pickens plans to sell 200,000 acre-feet from parched West Texas Staked Plains annually. His plan is opposed by water policy planners as economically infeasible. This extensive extraction will affect natural spring flows and the rural Texas Panhandle communities that depend on that water. It will also adversely affect family farming and sustainable development from Texas to South Dakota, according to opponents.

Pickens needs money and he has not been able to find investors to pay for a $110 Billion Bond he wants his new “water authority” to issue, therefore he is piggy-backing the windmill plan on to the water infrastructure development plan to use the money obtained for the wind farms in order to pay for the water infrastructure, which was his original goal.

While these plans were in the works as of November 2007, with the creation of this “water district”, the energy company, CLNE, was offered for public investment in an IPO in May of 2007, an IPO that was not advertised, but which resulted in Nancy Pelosi quickly jumping on board. Nancy Pelosi Purchased between $50,000-$100,000 in CLNE stock on May 25, 2007 apparently on it’s initial public offering.

It is hard to tell if the water scheme is the device being used to seize the land or if the wind turbine scheme is the means by which he will fund the water scheme, but no matter what the case may be, Nancy Pelosi will personally profit from whatever he does as an investor.

Nancy Pelosi is one of the richest members of Congress with a net worth of over US$25 million, which comes primarily from investments a large portfolio of jointly owned San Francisco Bay Area real estate, and, now, of course, stocks in CLNE.

While the stock was initially offered at $14 and is now valued below that amount, the low of $10 in early July of this year is bouncing back, especially in light of ads by Pickens and growing consensus that the Pickens plan will gain support, especially if Pelosi is firmly behind it.

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., held a small outdoor rally in Gastonia, N.C., and was greeted with a sign that read “A Gas Tax Holiday is Blatant Pandering.” Instead of ignoring the sign, Clinton read it out to the audience and defended her position.

“Now, I see that sign over there. A guy's got a sign that’s saying ‘A Gas Tax Holiday is Blatant Pandering.’ Now, I’ll tell you what. I’d rather have the oil companies pay the gas taxes than you pay the gas taxes this summer. I'll tell you something else. When the Federal Reserve and the Federal Treasury bailed out Bear Sterns to the tune of $30 billion, I didn’t hear about it being pandering.”

Then, Clinton took her opponent on indirectly, referencing her latest attack ad that points out Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., saying that the gas tax would save “just pennies.” Clinton has been saying that American families, according to her research, would save up to $70, and she's pointed out how important this is to families across America.

The senator got a bit more heated when she continued to address the idea that her plan was just pandering. “How about recognizing that, for many people, they count those pennies every single week. Now, it’s easy if you don’t have to worry how much gas costs. It’s not as simple. If you go to the grocery store and buy whatever you want, you don’t have to worry about what’s going in the cash register. But that’s not the way most Americans are living.”

Watching the Democrat Presidential candidates swing through the state of Pennsylvania, it's as if the state all of the sudden had an epidemic of "lifelong Republicans", going through a change of heart and switching over to the Democrats. Not to take part in their primaries, but due to ideological reasons. Obama seemed to be the major, perhaps the only, beneficiary of all these former "lifelong Republicans", now Democrat voters.

It seems that we are dealt this left wing propaganda every election, every primary year. Hordes of "lifelong Republicans" who tell us that they are now Democrats. In reality, the vast majority of them were never Republicans.

One such "lifelong Republican" named Cathy Gregor wrote a letter to the Allentown, PA newspaper, The Morning Call, and it was published.

I have been a Republican since I first registered to vote 52 years ago. Plus, I have been a ''ditto head'' since Rush Limbaugh has been on the radio. Now, I have changed parties and am a Democrat. Why? Certainly not because Rush Limbaugh urged all his ''ditto heads'' to do so to vote for Hillary Clinton, but because I believe in Barack Obama.

Yet, according to poster Scott Armstrong in the Yahoo Group "The Allentown Commentator", Cathy Gregor is a lifelong Democrat:

I have been a registered Democrat since I first voted thirty years ago but this year I am supporting John McCain.

Don't you think Glenn Kranzley would fact-check this claim before he printed the letter? Why then would he not fact-check today's letter from Cathy Gregor of Lower Macungie Township? The author of the letter not only claims to be a lifelong Republican but also a Rush Limbaugh listener who is voting for Obama.

Apparently, Glenn acted once again on faith rather than intellect. This is a familiar pattern for the editor of the opinion page who time and again has put journalistic and editorial standards on the back burner in order to further the interests his own political allegiance. Once they discover that she is Dr. Kate, the supplicants line up to approach at dinner parties and ballet recitals. Surely, they suggest to Dr. Katherine J. Atkinson, a family physician here, she might find a way to move them up her lengthy waiting list for new patients.

Those fortunate enough to make it soon learn they face another long wait: Dr. Atkinson’s next opening for a physical is not until early May — of 2009.

Now in Massachusetts, in an unintended consequence of universal coverage, the imbalance is being exacerbated by the state’s new law requiring residents to have health insurance.

“It’s a recipe for disaster,” Dr. Sereno said. “It’s great that people have access to health care, but now we’ve got to find a way to give them access to preventive services. The point of this legislation was not to get people episodic care.”

Here in Massachusetts, legislative leaders have proposed bills to forgive medical school debt for those willing to practice primary care in underserved areas; a similar law, worth $15.6 million, passed in New York this week. Massachusetts also recently authorized the opening of clinics in drug stores, hoping to relieve the pressure.

Dr. Atkinson, 45, said she paid herself a salary of $110,000 last year. Her insurance reimbursements often do not cover her costs, she said.

“I calculated that every time I have a Medicare patient it’s like handing them a $20 bill when they leave,” she said. “I never went into medicine to get rich, but I never expected to feel as disrespected as I feel. Where is the incentive for a practice like ours?”

But that should not overshadow the significance of Massachusetts’ achievement in enacting a bipartisan health care reform bill that fundamentally shifts the state’s health care system in the direction of greater patient and consumer empowerment and control. The Governor and legislature have provided their citizens with the tools to achieve what the public really wants: a health system with all the familiar comforts of existing employer group coverage but with the added benefits of portability, choice, and control.

Other governors and legislators would be well advised to consider this basic model as a framework for health care reform in their own states.

I'm sure you've all heard of the recent scandal in New York where the Governor (Eliot Spitzer, Democrat) was caught up in a call girl ring, but there was another scandal before that in which the Governor's political rival, State Senate majority leader Joe Bruno (Republican) found out that Governor Spitzer was using the State Police to spy on him:

"I've been in government 31 years and I've never experienced anything like this," said Bruno. "I was stunned to learn Governor Spitzer is using the fine men and women of the New York State Police to conduct surveillance on me," Bruno said. "This should send shivers up the spine of every New Yorker."

In the meantime, Bruno was also accused of abusing taxpayer funded transportation. Naturally Bruno was denying that.

A July 6 2007 excerpt from the NY Daily News editorial:

"Clear away the smoke being blown by Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno over his blatant abuse of taxpayer-funded transportation, and it all boils down to this: He wants to act like a jerk, live like a king - and not be held accountable for any of it."

Of course, the Governor and his aides hotly denied the accusation against him, but still it resulted in an investigation by the Albany DA, David Soares, whose investigation exonerated Spitzer.

The NY Daily News, being a pro-Democrat newspaper (though they didn't endorse Spitzer's candidacy for Governor), was overjoyed and immediately printed the following September 23rd 2007 editorial, titled "Anatomy Of A Smear":

The verdict is in. At last, the "Troopergate" so-called scandal is certified as a gigantic fraud perpetrated on the public by state Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno.

Having penetrated the intense smoke blown by Bruno, Albany District Attorney David Soares concluded in an authoritative, fact-based report that Gov. Spitzer committed no crimes, did not spy on the senator, did not conspire with aides to smear Bruno and, most important, did not engage in a coverup or lie about anything whatsoever.

Soares' retelling of the events that triggered no less than three investigations and Bruno's endlessly hyped accusations of wrongdoing lead to the conclusion that the only one who did wrong in this affair was Bruno. As the state Ethics Commission in effect concluded, the senator exploited absurdly lax rules to fly around the state on the taxpayers' dime to political events.

That was the true scandal, and those were the facts that Spitzer's aides provided to an enterprising reporter from the Albany Times Union. Caught red-handed misusing state police aircraft, Bruno turned the world on its head with charges that Spitzer had created a police state. State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo quickly found no criminality, but he fueled Bruno's smoke by issuing a report without questioning two key Spitzer aides.

But now Soares has nicely detailed the behind-the-scenes story, including the revealing fact that Spitzer ordered his aides not to refer to Bruno's use of aircraft to investigators. According to Soares, Spitzer correctly felt Bruno was operating within the overly porous rules then in effect. He also wanted to avoid a "distraction" in budget negotiations. So much for a get-Bruno plot directed from the top.

Despite the evidence, Bruno seems determined to beat this dead horse. He intimates with absolutely no justification that, maybe, Soares didn't get to the bottom of things. And he has pinned his hope of vindication on the last remaining probe, an inquiry by the Ethics Commission. He shouldn't hold his breath.

Having wasted everybody's time, he should cancel his half-million-dollar contract with a hit man lawyer. And then he should get down to the business of state government, perhaps explaining why on earth New Yorkers should keep his Republicans in charge of the state Senate. Does he have an agenda beyond ginning up unfounded investigations? Not so far as anyone can see right now.

Well.............not so fast.

Now, as it is turning out, Soares had engaged in a cover up, a whitewash. His investigation wasnt worth the paper it was printed on. And neither was the editorial printed by the NY Daily News.

It is being discovered that Spitzer DID have the State Police spy on Bruno, as well as ordered his aides to release a smear campaign, accusing Bruno of misusing public transportation, etc.

Disgraced ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer was up to his neck in his administration's dirty tricks aimed at discrediting State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.....Spitzer ordered senior aides to release potentially damning information, The New York Times reported. Spitzer has adamantly denied involvement....But, according to the DA's report, he even called former aide Darren Dopp at home to check on his progress in carrying out the orders. Dopp said he warned Spitzer that Bruno would be angry - but the then-governor dismissed the alert, getting so furious, he turned red and spit out the coffee he was drinking, according to the report. "He was spitting mad," Dopp reportedly said.

From the moment last July when State Editor Fred Dicker broke the story that the State Police - at the direction of then-Gov. Spitzer's office - began detailed surveillance of Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, one question has remained: What did Spitzer know - and when did he know it? Now, comes a front-page NY Times report confirming nearly every exclusive broken by The Post's Albany bureau. That puts the lie to the whitewash report issued last September by Albany DA David Soares......... Attorney General Andrew Cuomo certainly came close to the real story. His bombshell report concluded that key Spitzer aides had the State Police cook up documents implicating Bruno. Cuomo also concluded that Team Spitzer then lured a credulous newspaper, The Albany Times-Union, into using the documents to smear Bruno. Bruno, holding detailed discussions with senior aides, ordering damaging information about Mr. Bruno released, and calling an aide at home repeatedly to check on the progress, according to several people with direct knowledge of the investigation.

The governor has previously said he was not personally involved in the effort, suggesting only that he was vaguely aware that his aides had responded to a reporter’s inquiry about Mr. Bruno’s travels on state aircraft.

But testimony and other information gathered by the Albany County district attorney, P. David Soares, indicate that the governor’s participation was extensive and reflected Mr. Spitzer’s intense desire to damage Mr. Bruno, the people with knowledge of the case said.

The effort to tarnish Mr. Bruno was the first major blunder of Mr. Spitzer’s first term. A report by the attorney general, Andrew M. Cuomo, on July 23 said that the Spitzer administration had improperly used the State Police to assemble records on Mr. Bruno’s flights. Mr. Spitzer apologized, placed Mr. Dopp on indefinite unpaid leave, and said he would not tolerate such behavior.

But according to the people with knowledge of the investigation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the inquiry is not over, Mr. Dopp described a meeting he had with Mr. Spitzer just before releasing the records assembled on Mr. Bruno to a reporter from The Times Union of Albany.

Around June 25 or June 26, Mr. Dopp told prosecutors, he first met with Richard Baum, the governor’s chief of staff, who told Mr. Dopp that the governor wanted the records on Mr. Bruno released to the media. “Eliot wants you to release the records,” Mr. Baum told him.

But Mr. Dopp, mindful of the political war that would erupt between the governor’s office and Mr. Bruno, hesitated and decided to check with the governor.

He told the governor that Mr. Bruno would be furious, according to people familiar with his account. Mr. Spitzer responded with expletives about Mr. Bruno and belligerently dismissed the warning.

The governor was so angry, Mr. Dopp recalled, that he turned red and spit out coffee he was sipping as he directed him to release the records immediately. “As he was saying it, he was spitting a little bit,” Mr. Dopp said. “He was spitting mad.”

What is obvious, of course, is that Soares sought to whitewash the affair all along.

That's why he never had Spitzer testify under oath.

That's why he rushed out with a report in September claiming everything was hunky-dory with the gov and his people.

That's why, to this day, he is declining to pursue criminal charges - for perjury, suborning perjury, obstruction of justice, issuing false statements or anything else - in this affair.

Indeed, were Spitzer not gone from office, Soares might never have produced even the soft-pedaling, incomplete findings he released yesterday.

Soares would never have gone after his old ally - even to the limited extent he did in this report - were Spitzer still in a position to hurt him.

So much for backbone.

Soares' behavior has been a travesty.

Of course, the New York Daily News has had little, if anything, to say about their gullibility, being taken in way back last summer by the Soares cover up (Nor has the Albany Times-Union said anything, at least that I know of, about being used by the Governors office to help spread the smear of Joe Bruno).

The report released today by the Albany County District Attorney’s
Office confirms what I have been saying all along, that former Governor
Eliot Spitzer lied to the people of this State about his direct knowledge
and involvement in the Troopergate scandal; that he was obsessed with
conducting a political “hit job” to damage me personally and politically;
and that the administration enlisted favored members of the news media,
principally the Albany Times Union to carry out their plot.

The report represents a turnaround from the District Attorney’s
report issued last September that cleared the Governor of any wrongdoing.
That report was done after a so-called “investigation” in which the DA did
not place anyone under oath and was clearly issued as cover for
then-Governor Spitzer and his administration.

I feel it was a serious mistake not to present this information to a
grand jury and proceed with a prosecution, as there is clearly evidence of
criminal conduct.

I urge Governor Paterson to take appropriate action against those
involved in the plot and cover-up, and who should not continue to represent
him and the Executive Chamber.

This scandal was a blatant abuse of government power. This time it
was aimed at me. However, these abuses should present a concern to all New
Yorkers. It also illustrates the importance of having checks and balances
in State government and avoiding one-party rule and power.

While we will continue to move forward with measures to address some
of the legislative issues raised by this scandal, this report sheds more
light on a sad and disgraceful chapter in New York State history and on a
Governor who clearly had his priorities wrong and, as I said so often,
lacked the temperament to govern.

It surprised me little that Eliot Spitzer misled his family and constituents about his use of prostitutes - or, as we now learn, that he hid his involvement in the Troopergate scandal.

I've known for 10 years that Spitzer's a liar. And one with a white-hot temper, as well.

Over the years, I had dealings with Spitzer but I was always mindful of his lack of candor.

In late 2004, as Spitzer was preparing to kick off his run for governor, I checked the old 1994 promissory note. And sure enough, the loan from Dad was reaching the end of its 10-year term, so I called to find out if he had fully repaid his father.

After anger for my questioning, at first he said he had. When I pressed for proof, he didn't have any. A few days later, hecalled to say that to take the matter off the table he just sold more than $4million in municipal bonds to fully repay his father. At tax time in 2005, just to be sure, I asked for proof of his big bond sale. An aide faxed me Spitzer's tax returns.

I didn't believe him until I was holding the proof. It was needed because his word was worthless.

Where was this skepticism back in September?

Attached are a couple of newspaper clipping proofs that I obtained from the Scranton Newspaper (the editor is a friend of mine) that mentions more of this story.

Yes the temperature changes everyday. But only by a few degrees. Sometimes its 86 degrees and the next day it is only 84 degrees. It is during the winter months that the temperature drops to freezing.

The FBI has recently adopted a novel investigative technique: posting hyperlinks that purport to be illegal videos of minors having sex, and then raiding the homes of anyone willing to click on them.

Undercover FBI agents used this hyperlink-enticement technique, which directed Internet users to a clandestine government server, to stage armed raids of homes in Pennsylvania, New York, and Nevada last year. The supposed video files actually were gibberish and contained no illegal images.

A CNET News.com review of legal documents shows that courts have approved of this technique, even though it raises questions about entrapment, the problems of identifying who's using an open wireless connection--and whether anyone who clicks on a FBI link that contains no child pornography should be automatically subject to a dawn raid by federal police.

Roderick Vosburgh, a doctoral student at Temple University who also taught history at La Salle University, was raided at home in February 2007 after he allegedly clicked on the FBI's hyperlink. Federal agents knocked on the door around 7 a.m., falsely claiming they wanted to talk to Vosburgh about his car. Once he opened the door, they threw him to the ground outside his house and handcuffed him.

Vosburgh was charged with violating federal law, which criminalizes "attempts" to download child pornography with up to 10 years in prison. Last November, a jury found Vosburgh guilty on that count, and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 22, at which point Vosburgh could face three to four years in prison.

The implications of the FBI's hyperlink-enticement technique are sweeping. Using the same logic and legal arguments, federal agents could send unsolicited e-mail messages to millions of Americans advertising illegal narcotics or child pornography--and raid people who click on the links embedded in the spam messages

Last weekend I went to visit my Dad in Idaho, and one of our conversations got around to Bigfoot, and he related an interesting story to me. It’s quite long, but I think you’ll find it’s worthwhile to read. I enjoyed hearing it from my Dad, and I enjoyed writing it down here. Got a few goose bumps looking over my notes and writing it all out with my back to set of windows facing a thick Northwest forest at three in the morning. But they were the good kind of goose bumps that accompany that anticipatory thrill one gets while doing a good bit of research, or reading a strange account that just might be true. I’m posting this in the general forum, because I can’t in good conscience call it a sighting or encounter. Most of the participants in the tale are long gone, I can’t vouch for the veracity of their claims.

Now keep in mind this is all at least third hand information, and it happened close to forty years ago, so it is really nothing more than good, spooky story. When my Dad first began relating it to me, it was kind of in the spirit of ‘here is a crazy story, I don’t believe it but it’s a good yarn anyway’. But as he got further along into it, I could tell it had quite an effect on him. The fact that he remembered so many details and could tell the story like it had happened last week, leads me to believe there is something to it. After hearing it, I asked him if he would mind if I tried to write it out and share it with some people on the internet who were serious about the subject and might be interested in the story. He said he didn’t mind, as long as I kept his name out of it, and didn’t “cause a stir.” Please keep in mind that this is not a scientific report, I occasionally invoke artistic license throughout the story to make it more readable. But the events are as my Dad related them to me. So, without further ado, here is “The Cowman of Copalis Beach!”

My Dad worked in the timber industry his whole life. His Father was a logger, and he grew up in and around the woods. My Dad started his own logging company when he was eighteen, and has owned and operated shake and shingle mills from Oregon clear up to Thorn Bay, Alaska. He is an intelligent man and holds over a dozen patents for various pieces of equipment he has designed and built over the years. He has employed dozens of people over the years, all of them spending extensive time in the wilderness. When I was a boy, I remember hearing bits and pieces of conversations among some of the men at the mill. Although nobody would tell me directly, I understood that something had gone on before I was born, and it involved one of the foremen, ‘Jon’. They weren’t joking around, they were genuinely afraid, and wouldn’t talk about it with a kid.

When I was young, my Dad wouldn’t tell me about it because I would often go out into the woods cutting blocks with him on the weekends, and he didn’t want me to be afraid of the woods. While I was speaking with him last weekend, I told him of a couple of strange events that happened to me later in the wilderness, and that reminded me of the hints at a story I heard when I was a boy. After some prodding he told me the following story.

In the mid 1960’s, my Dad owned a large roofing product mill in Aberdeen, WA. He had teams of men that would cut the fallen old growth cedar salvage left after a logging operation. He had permits to salvage a large amount of wood in the coastal areas of Grays Harbor County, primarily in the area around Copalis Beach. Several of the men on his cutting crews lived in and around Copalis Beach. His foreman, a man I will call Jon for the story, was a bright, down to earth hard worker. My Dad trusted him with thousands of dollars of vehicles and equipment, as well as the safety of his crews. He was not the kind of man to make up stories.

On a Monday morning sometime in July, Jon was several hours late for work. This was highly unusual as he was always there early, getting the saws and trucks ready for the day. My dad said he was visibly shaken up, and when he asked him what was wrong, he asked my Dad to go in the office so the others wouldn’t hear them. They went in and sat down, and Jon simply said “Something destroyed our house this weekend.” My Dad thought he said “someone” broke into the house, and asked Jon if it was someone he knew. Jon said, “You don’t understand, this wasn’t a person. It was a… I don’t know what it was, but it completely trashed the house. The family is going to stay with my brother in Elma for a while.”

My dad asked him to explain what had happened. Jon said that when he got home from work Friday evening, his youngest son Tim, who was around four at the time, told him he saw a big “Cowman” walking at the edge of their field that afternoon. He thought the boy meant “Cowboy”, because some of his neighbors wore cowboy hats when they were out in the sun. He asked him if the man was wearing a cowboy hat, and the boy said, “No Daddy, he was a Cowman, furry and stinky like the cows.” He asked his wife if she knew what he was talking about, and she said Tim was playing on the porch that afternoon, when he came running in and said the cow man was stuck on the fence. He was very excited, so she went out to see what he was talking about. She said as she opened the door, she was hit by a horrible smell, like wet dogs and garbage. Tim was pointing across to the field opposite their house and said “He got loose!” She looked where he was gesturing and could see the top strand of barb wire bouncing up and down, as if somebody had just pulled on it really hard and let it go. She didn’t see the “Cowman”, and noticed nothing out of the ordinary except for the smell.

She told Tim to come inside to play for rest of the day, she felt uneasy and a little scared. Their older son, Jon Jr. who was twelve at the time, was at a friend’s house and walked home a short while after Tim saw his “Cowman”. He told her somebody had followed him home, walking in the woods off the right side of the road. He never seen who it was, they never left the woods, but he said it had to be a really big man. He would hear large sticks cracking, and the footsteps were very heavy. Once he got to the driveway of their house where the woods stopped at the field where his brother had his sighting, the footsteps stopped and Jon Jr. never saw anything. He was pretty shaken up by the event, and wanted his Dad to go out to the woods and check it out with him.

Later that evening, Jon strapped on his .357 and took his older son out into the field to have a look. They first walked to the area where the “Cowman” was supposedly stuck on the fence, and walked down the fence line looking for anything. They came upon a large clump of long, reddish brown hair tangled in the top strand of barbed wire. He tried to pull it off but it was really tangled up, so he pulled out his buck knife and sawed it off. He said the hair was over a foot long, real coarse and stringy. There appeared to be a bit of flesh matted in the clump, and the top wire was pulled loose from one of the posts. Whatever was hung up on the fence was very big. He handed the hair to his son to hold, and they climbed through the fence and walked toward the woods. He said he was looking for any sign of tracks on the ground; the hair kind of looked like it was from a horse’s mane or tail. The ground was a solid grassy field, and there were no hoof prints or any other tracks he could see.

The edge of the woods began about ten feet from the fence line, and they entered on a small game trail that deer frequented. It was around eight at night, and in the woods it was getting to be fairly dark. They walked for a ways, and soon began to smell the rotting garbage/wet dog odor his wife reported earlier. Jon said he got the feeling they were being watched, the hair on the back of his neck was standing up. He told his son they should head back before it got dark, and the boy didn’t argue. As they began walking back out, they could hear heavy footsteps off to their left. They stopped, and the footsteps stopped. They walked on nearly to the clearing, and Jon whispered to his son to run like Hell to the house on the count of three. Jon Jr. nodded, and Jon whispered, “One, two…Three!” and gave his son a push in the back to get him started, then spun around and raced off the trail in the opposite direction, toward the footsteps with his gun drawn.

Off the trail, the underbrush was dense with ferns and bushes; he had a hard time making headway. But as he got closer, he could hear it moving away from him, deeper into the woods. At this time, he told my Dad that he thought it was a vagrant camping out in the woods and possibly scoping houses out to rob at night. Jon was a big man and capable of taking care of himself in most any situation and he had a large caliber handgun so he wasn’t too worried about confronting a vagrant in the woods. He was a few yards off the trail in deep brush when he heard the movement stop just ahead of him. He stopped to look and listen, and thought he saw movement by a large tree, like someone was trying to hide there. He leveled his gun and said “Come out nice and slow, or I swear to God I’ll come back there and shoot you!”

It was silent for a moment, and then he caught movement out the corner of his eye and spun around to his right for a better look. He said it looked like a huge bear moving through the brush, he could only see bits of it through the dense ferns, but it was moving quietly away from the tree on four legs. It was about fifteen feet away from him. At first he thought it was a bear, and then suddenly he saw a huge hairy arm with a human like hand reach out of the brush and grab a small alder tree. The tree was about four inches in diameter, and it grabbed hold about five feet up. He said it happened so fast it was a blur, but the thing pulled itself upright out of the brush by holding the tree. It stood on two legs and turned its upper body to glare at Jon. It was enormous; he couldn’t believe how bulky it was. He said it was well over seven feet tall, and at least half that big through the chest. It was too dark to make out many features, but its eyes seemed to glow a deep red, and he thought he could see teeth, like it was curling its lips back.

It stood for just a brief moment, and then lunged ahead, pushing back on the tree with tremendous force. The tree snapped loudly and crashed into the trees around it, getting hung up in the branches and not falling to the ground. It then disappeared into the deep brush with frightening speed, sounding like a bulldozer with no engine sounds. Jon stood there in shock, his gun temporally forgotten, then he realized it was heading toward the house, the way his son had went. He turned and ran to the trail, hoping to gain ground on it and cut it off before it reached the clearing. He hit the trail and ran as fast as he could toward the clearing, all the while hearing the creature thrash through the brush on his side.

He burst into the clearing and looked franticly about for his son. Jon Jr. was standing just inside of the fenced field, waiting for his Dad. Jon screamed at him to run to the house, then he saw the thing crash out of the woods about fifty feet to his left. It crossed the ten foot clearing and stepped over the fence in two strides, and was running through the field parallel to his son in a matter of seconds. Jon screamed at his son to run faster, and took aim at the creature. He didn’t fire because he was afraid to hit his son or his house, so he vaulted over the fence and ran in pursuit of them. He could see it angling toward his son, and knew there was no way his boy would make it to the gate before it cut him off. In desperation, he pointed the gun to the ground at his side and fired as he ran, hoping to scare it. It veered more sharply toward his son, and put on an enormous burst of speed. He heard his boy scream as they seemed to collide, he saw the creature dip its shoulder down a little bit and suddenly Jon Jr. was airborne, he flew about ten feet then hit the ground rolling.

The creature never paused; it continued to run at an amazing speed in a loop back towards the woods. Once the line of fire was clear, Jon stopped and squeezed off the remaining five rounds at the retreating creature. He was pretty sure all the shots went wild; the creature never made a sound or slowed down, and was soon over the fence and back in the woods. He reached his son, who was shaken up but not physically hurt. He asked his Dad if it was a bear. Apparently, little Jon was so busy running for the house that he didn’t see the creature running after him, he said something big and black suddenly ran into him, and he felt a huge paw hit his bottom and he said he felt like he was falling.

Jon pulled his son to his feet and they ran through the gate and into the house locking the door behind him. They were both out of breath and white as ghosts, his wife was screaming at him, demanding to know what the gunshots were for and if they were all right. When he could catch his breath, he told her to make sure the back door was locked, he was going to call the Sheriff. He went to the phone and began to dial the number; this was before 911, then stopped and wondered what exactly he was going to say. He hung up the phone, realizing what an idiot he would look like if he told the Sheriff the boogie man just chased them out of the woods.

He told his wife that it was a large animal, possibly a bear. He didn’t know how to begin to tell her their four year old was right, his Cowman was real and it was more frightening than anything he could imagine. He told them all to keep the doors locked, and stay away from the windows. Around ten o’clock that night, both boys were in bed and Jon and his wife sat down to watch the news. They soon heard a loud moaning cry, kind of like the siren on the volunteer fire department. It would stretch out for a long time, and then end with a “whoop whoop” sound. It was coming from the woods opposite the house. His wife asked “What the Hell is that?” Jon answered truthfully; “That is Tim’s Cowman.”

He then described to her the full details of what had happened, and she immediately wanted to call the Sheriff. He persuaded her that they would sound crazy, and that he would handle it himself. She reluctantly agreed, and told him she didn’t want either of the kids to go outside until this thing was gone. The howling went on until around midnight, when it got quiet again. Jon wanted to stay up through the night and watch over the house, but he had a long day at work and the excitement earlier had worn him out. They went to bed around one in the morning, and had no further problems that night.

They slept in that morning, and the boys were already up and watching cartoons when they got out of bed. The first thing little Jon said was that he had heard the bear rubbing against the house last night. He said he was too scared to get up and tell his parents, and fell back asleep soon after. Then Tim said “The Cowman talks funny.” This stopped Jon cold. He asked his son “When did you talk to the Cowman?” Tim replied “Last night, in my room.” Jon asked: “The Cowman was in your room?” “No Daddy, he’s too big for my room, he talked to my window.” Tim said, and turned back to the cartoons. “What did the Cowman say, Tim?” Jon asked. “He talks funny; I don’t know what he said. He talks like this…OOH AHH AHH OOH!” Tim said, and started making strange monkey like noises. “Did the Cowman try to get in your window?” Jon asked, breaking out in a cold sweat. “He’s too big for that. He made funny faces, he has Lincoln Log teeth!” Tim said with a smile.

Jon later learned Tim meant it had square teeth that looked the same size as the small blocks in a Lincoln log set. It apparently spent quite a while “talking” and making faces outside the boy’s window. Tim said it lay down and went to sleep outside, and he could hear it snoring. Jon walked to his younger son’s room, and cautiously peered out the window. No sleeping Cowman. Jon told the boys to get dressed; they were going to go visit their uncle in Elma for the day.

After his wife and kids left, he called one of the men from his crew, and asked him to come over. I’ll call him Patrick, he was an ex-State patrolman and my Dad said he was kicked off the force because of his drinking problem. He was a good worker and never got drunk before dark, so Jon figured they would have most of the day to look for this thing. When Patrick arrived, Jon greeted him at the door and said, “Are you up for some hunting?” Seeing how it was not hunting season, Patrick told him he doesn’t poach, and doesn’t even want to know about it if Jon did. Jon told him it wasn’t deer he was after, and went on to explain the previous night’s events. Patrick didn’t really believe him, but could see he was sincere and still shook up. Jon had his pistol and a bolt action 30.06, Patrick had a .38 in his car and Jon loaned him a 12 gauge. They first circled the house looking for any signs of a nocturnal visitor.

At the back of the house, there was a spigot for the garden hose, and it always leaked. There was a patch of ground worn bare of grass under it, and it had turned to mud. In the center of the mud, there was a huge, clear imprint of what looked like a bare human foot. Jon said it was at least 18 inches long, and very wide. It was so clear that he got the feeling it was left there on purpose. They found no other prints around the house, and in places in the field and woods where a track could be made, the creature seemed to avoid them. Off to the side of the track in the mud were four straight lines about eight inches long. He said it looked like someone had raked their fingers through the mud. When they circled around the side of the house and got to Tim’s window, they saw what it was for.

Above the top of the window, a good seven feet up, were four muddy streaks. And on the window itself were dozens of large, muddy fingerprints. The glass wasn’t cracked or broken, just smeared with mud. By this time Patrick was fast becoming convinced something strange had indeed happened the night before.

Before going out into the woods, Jon wanted to feed the families pigs. They had two of them apparently fairly young weighing around 40 pounds each. The pig pen was about a hundred yards away from the house, behind an old barn. As they got closer Jon became concerned because they couldn’t hear them making any noise. Usually they squealed like crazy when they knew food was near at hand, but this morning it was completely silent. They rounded the corner and the pen was empty. No sign of damage or struggle, the pigs were just gone. They searched the barn but found nothing out of place, so they decided to hit the woods and try to kill this thing.

They entered on the same trail Jon and Jon had used the day before, Jon showed Patrick the broken fence wire and told him again about the hair. It was a bright summer morning, and Jon was surprised at the difference from the previous evening. The night before had been still and silent, now the woods were alive with birds and small animals. He showed Patrick the broken tree, and they followed the creatures’ trial and found several more trees and large branches twisted and broken. They could see large, faint impressions of footprints where the ground was soft. They followed the deer trail further into the woods, and encountered nothing unusual. By noon they were both getting hungry, so they hiked back to the house for lunch. They spent the rest of the day poking around, but saw nothing more out of the ordinary.

Just before dark that night, his wife and kids drove up. He and Patrick were sitting on the porch with the guns, watching the woods. His wife asked if they had seen anything, Jon told her about the footprint and mud on the window. Patrick had retrieved a pint of booze from his car and was well on his way to getting smashed. Jon decided he didn’t want a frightened drunk with a gun around his family, so he suggested that Patrick could go home, nothing was going to happen anyway. Patrick agreed and drove off, and Jon continued to watch the woods. His wife brought out a plate of food and a Coleman lantern and a flashlight. He told her would stay out here and watch the house through the night. Before they went to bed, he went into their bedroom, and with help from his wife, pushed the king sized bed as far from the windows as they could. They agreed that his wife and kids would all sleep in that bed for the night, and he would keep watch around the house. She had grown up hunting and knew how to handle a gun as good as him, so she insisted on keeping the shotgun in the room with them. He agreed after making her promise to ask for a name before shooting anything. If it replied “Jon”, please don’t shoot it.

There was a full moon that night, and Jon could see across the field and into the inky dark of the woods. The night air was filled with the sound of thousands of crickets, and the pond behind the house was full of croaking frogs. As the moon rose higher, clumps of weeds in the field began casting sinister shadows, and before long Jon was seeing big hairy creatures sneaking up on him in each of them. He stood up and lit a cigarette, trying to shake the fear and concentrate on the task at hand. As he smoked, he wandered to the end of the porch, and stood looking at the darkened barn. Something was different, but he couldn’t quite place it. The front of the barn facing the house was open, and the moonlight was hitting it from the side, casting the interior in deep shadows. He stood watching the black opening as he finished his smoke, thinking about the missing pigs. He then realized what was wrong. All the crickets and frogs had gone silent. It was as quiet as the inside of a mausoleum at night; he could hear the minute shrill buzz of his own nervous system. As he turned to walk back to his chair, he thought he saw movement in the barn. He looked intently at the opening and could make out nothing, then turned his head a bit to the side and saw what looked like two red eyes hovering about eight feet off the ground. He couldn’t see them if he looked straight at them, but when he averted his eyes a little, they became clearer. They were a deep burning coal red, almost invisible in the dark. Every few seconds they would disappear when the creature blinked.

His heart began thudding in his chest, and he waited for it to leave the barn and approach the house. He slowly backed up to his chair, never looking away, and picked up his 30.06. He walked back to the end of the porch and watched and waited. He stood looking at the blinking red eyes for what seemed like hours, and then the eyes blinked out and never came back. He watched intently but could see no movement. He thought for a moment, then grabbed the flashlight and shined it at the barn. The flashlight was too small to penetrate the darkness of the barn from this distance, he had to get closer. He was none too keen about leaving the relative safety of the porch and confronting a glowing eyed monster in his barn, but he was damned if he was going to live in fear in his own house.

He left the porch and began slowly working his way toward the barn, taking his time, building his courage up. He got closer and could still see no movement; it had gone further into the dark. He got within 20 feet of the opening, and his flashlight would now penetrate the gloom in the barn. He moved the feeble beam of light over the contents of the barn, an old tractor, and old pickup, boxes and buckets. Too many places for something to hide, even something big. He cautiously walked closer, now shining the flashlight down the barrel of his rifle. He stopped at the entrance and shined the light all over, searching the corners and under the vehicles. He stepped into the barn, every sense straining for sound or movement. He walked around the pickup, tensing for a huge, hairy arm to reach out and grab him at any second. He made his way clear to the rear of the barn without seeing anything, and slowly turned around to leave. He felt both relieved not to have encountered it in the dark barn, and frightened and somewhat confused about where it could have gone.

As he was walking out he glanced at the wide stairs leading up into the hayloft and froze. He knew with complete certainty that it had climbed those stairs and was waiting for him to walk out under the hayloft and jump down upon him. He couldn’t move, he was literally frozen in fear. He swore he could here the floorboards softly creak above him as an enormous weight edged stealthily closer to the edge. He stood with his heart pounding in his ears, unable to move or act. Suddenly there was the booming explosion of a shotgun from the house, followed by his wife screaming. His paralysis broke and he bolted out of the barn toward the house, completely forgetting what may have been in the hayloft.

As he ran toward the house, he heard an inhuman roar coming from the woods behind the house. It sounded pissed off and in pain. It screamed again and he heard branches breaking as it plowed through the forest, thankfully away from the house. He got to the house and almost knocked down the front door in his hurry to get inside.

He ran down the hall to their room and found his family huddled together on the bed, sobbing. One of the widows was blown out, and his wife was still pointing the shotgun at it. When he burst into the room she swung the gun in his direction and screamed, and he hit the floor. He waited for the blast but it didn’t come. He slowly stood up and she had put the gun down and he went to the bed. He asked her what had happened, but she was too shook up to answer just then. Tim started crying: “Why did you shoot the Cowman Mommy, why?” Jon Jr. Had his face buried against her shoulder crying. After they calmed down a bit, he told them to get up and follow him. He led them to the living room, then went out the open front door and looked carefully around. He could see no sign of it, all was quiet again. He told them to come out and get in the car. They ran out in their pajamas and piled in the car; he got in and drove them to his brother’s house in Elma.

On the way there, they had calmed down enough to tell him what happened. She said a couple hours after they went to bed, she finally dozed off. She was awakened by Tim talking to someone, and this bizarre clicking chirping sound. Tim wasn’t in the bed; he was standing in front of one of the windows. The moonlight was shining through both windows illuminating the room pretty good, but there was a large shadow, like a tree obscuring the window in front of Tim. She knew there were no trees close enough to cast a shadow, she told to get away from the window. “Mommy, listen! The Cowman can sound like a bird!” Tim said pointing excitedly at the dark figure in the window. “Timmy, get away from the window.” She said, trying to keep her voice quiet. Right after she spoke, the noises from outside changed, it went from a soft chirping, to a strange gibbering, almost like human speech with an occasional pig-like snort thrown in.

At this time, little Jon woke up and said “What is that?” rather loudly. This seemed to incite the creature and it hit the side of the house with its fists hard enough for the walls to tremble. At this, Little Jon screamed and Tim yelled “Quiet, you’re going to scare him away!” She yelled at Tim to get away from the window again, and reached up on the headboard and grabbed the shotgun. She got out of the bed and started toward Tim; the creature leaned down and looked straight in the window at her. She screamed and raised the shotgun, afraid to shoot because her son was so close to it. She started foreword to grab Tim, and there was an explosion of breaking glass, and a gigantic hairy arm reached through the window toward her son. She screamed again and fired over Tim’s head, blowing out the rest of the window and hitting the creature with .00 buckshot. It jerked backwards out of the window and disappeared into the dark. A few seconds later she heard it screaming in the woods. “It was trying to get Tim, it was trying to grab my baby!” she started crying again and he comforted her as best he could while driving.

They stayed the rest of that night and the following night with his brother’s family. He told his brother about it, but could see he didn’t really believe him. He agreed to ride back to Jon’s house with him early Monday morning before work. They had left the front door open in their haste to leave, and he was afraid animals or vandals would have got into the house. When they arrived, the house looked like a tornado had gone through it. The couch was upside down. They had a large, heavy console TV and it was apparently thrown across the room, lying in a spray of broken glass. The kitchen was trashed, the refrigerator knocked over and food everywhere. The doors to both of the boy’s rooms were left closed, and the rooms were untouched, same as the bathroom. The master bedroom was torn apart, the pillows ripped up and feathers everywhere. The chest of drawers was knocked over and the large mirror smashed. Jon’s brother looked around in awe, and said “You better call the police!” Jon looked at him and said “And tell them what? Bigfoot destroyed my house?”

They left and closed the front door this time, and drove to my Dad’s mill in Aberdeen. Jon’s brother waited in the car while Jon went in and told this to my Dad. After he was done, my Dad said, “Well, let’s go have a look at it then.” They drove back out to the house, and Jon showed my Dad the damage. He pulled the clump of hair from his shirt pocket and let my Dad look at it. As they were walking through the house surveying the damage, my Dad pointed out cracks in the ceiling where it had apparently stood up and hit its head. Jon told my Dad that they couldn’t live there anymore, even if the creature was gone, they would always be afraid. Their homeowners insurance wouldn’t cover the damage; the adjuster claimed Jon must have done it in a drunken rage. My Dad helped them find a place in Aberdeen, and gave him a loan for new furniture and stuff. The house was eventually fixed up and sold, and my Dad never heard about another problem there.

A few observations about this story; My Dad lost contact with “Jon” and his family in the mid eighties. They moved out of state and my Dad hasn’t heard from them since. His brother died around the same time. Why didn’t they call the cops? Jon had a lot of pride as well as a lot of common sense. He knew he couldn’t logically explain what had happened to the authorities, and he didn’t want the story to get out and have him branded a nutcase. I asked my Dad if they saved the hair, he said Jon never mentioned it again and my Dad never asked him about it. I asked my Dad if he saw the footprint and muddy fingerprints, he said he did. He said it looked like a giant barefoot man had stepped very carefully in the center of the mud. He’s not a tracker, but he said it was the clearest print of any kind he had ever seen. I asked my Dad if the neighbors had heard any of this. He said if they did, none of them ever mentioned it again. I also asked him if he thought it was possible Jon had made it all up. That he HAD trashed his house in a drunken rage, and made up this elaborate cover story. My Dad said Jon and his family were terrified of that place; they didn’t even want to go back and get their clothes. If was just an elaborate story, what did he stand to gain? To profit from a story in any way, you have to share it with people. My Dad and the other folks mentioned in the story are the only ones who ever heard it. Until now, of course. He also said that whatever trashed that house was no man. The TV had to have weighed close to 200 pounds, and it was obviously thrown across the room with great force. He said that even after two days, there was still a wild animal smell in the house.

I asked him if thought there may have been two creatures involved, considering the incident in the barn. He said he asked Jon that same question, and was told that Jon felt there was only one, that it lured him into the barn then snuck out the side door to the house. The thing he thought he heard in the hayloft was either his imagination, or some common animal like a raccoon.

For whatever reason, this critter seemed focused on their four year old son. Their son was the only one who never showed any fear of it. He seemed to think of it as his friend. And although the sex of the animal was never determined, it was referred to as a male because of the predatory stalking type behavior. That and the conspicuous lack of breasts, or perhaps it was just not as well endowed as the Patterson Film Subject? Anyhoo, its behavior almost seems indicative of a mother that has lost her little Bigfoot and is looking for a replacement. I rather facetiously asked my Dad if little ‘Timmy’ was a particularly hairy child, perhaps suffering from that rare condition that causes uncontrollable hair growth all over the body. He said ‘Timmy’ was a normal little boy, with normal brown hair on his normal head. I didn’t ask if ‘Timmy’ regularly reeked of rotting garbage and wet dogs, didn’t seem a polite course for the conversation to take. He told me of other possible Bigfoot encounters he and his crews had in the woods around Grays Harbor. None of them are quite as titillating as the ‘Cowman’ story, but interesting none the less.

The tireless Melanie Morgan of Move America Forward, who spearheaded the protests and backlash, shares details of the outrageous behavior of the Pinkos–and the Berkeley police force:

If I were a headline writer I would describe the situation as CHAOS AND ANARCHY IN BERKELEY today.

Not by our side –by the Marine haters and American traitors.

The cops were openly hostile toward the people who showed up at 5:00 a.m., never stepping in to protect the patriots from the assaults that took place against elderly folks, Gold Star parents, Blue Star families and Joe and Jane Citizen who were waving the flags and showing their pride in the Marines. The police allowed hundreds of Berkeley High School kids (accompanied by their teachers) to gather with CodePink, receive their mandatory face masks and F—k Bush t-shirts, and allowed them to mill around our PA where they tried to cut the power cords to the system.

Berkeley police repeatedly allowed CodePink to violate our permits, and never lifted a finger to stop their crowd from interfering with our activities until the very end, after we screamed blue bloody hell.

When Catherine Moy, the Executive Director of MAF called the police to tell them a riot was erupting in the early hours –THEY HUNG UP ON HER.

Cat called the Highway Patrol, who referred her back to the Berkeley police –WHO HUNG UP ON HER.

It was positively shameful….

…Move America Forward’s sound permit was turned off at 5:00 in the afternoon, while the Pinkos were allowed to use their system to sing Kumbaya and other 60’s peace chants.

Berkeley, the birthplace of free speech, is now officially the center of intolerant hatred for anyone who sticks up for the men and women who are fighting and dying to protect THEIR rights.

Our side sang God Bless America, America the beautiful and other stirring songs that seemed to enrage the elderly commies.

25,000 petitions were collected by Move America Forward with the help of other pro-troops groups like Gathering of Eagles, EaglesUp, Vets for Freedom and others.

There were Eagles EVERYWHERE today.

And Patriot Guard Riders.

And American Legion vets.

And members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

5,000 petition signatures were also collected by an organization in Washington headed by Nicholas Provenzano, who flew out to Berkeley on the red-eye to deliver to the City Council.

Red, White and Blue Americans rushed to our side from Atlanta, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, San Diego, and other parts of the United States.

Our crowds numbered into the thousands throughout the day.

So gratifying. So humbling.

People of all ages, races, and political backgrounds (yes even some incensed liberals) honored our active duty service members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and in other parts around the world.

We spoke of the sacrifice and the nobility of the military families who support their sons and daughters, husbands and wives.

And we gave a HOOO-AWW especially to our Marines, who find themselves prevented from speaking while under assault, not from a evil enemy abroad, but from the insurgents here at home.

Obama’s Global Tax Proposal Up for Senate Vote

A nice-sounding bill called the "Global Poverty Act," sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, is up for a Senate vote on Thursday and could result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations.

Senator Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has not endorsed either Senator Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. But on Thursday, February 14, he is trying to rush Obama's "Global Poverty Act" (S.2433) through his committee. The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.

The bill, which is item number four on the committee's business meeting agenda, passed the House by a voice vote last year because most members didn't realize what was in it. Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require. According to the website of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, no hearings have been held on the Obama bill in that body.

A release from the Obama Senate office about the bill declares, "In 2000, the U.S. joined more than 180 countries at the United Nations Millennium Summit and vowed to reduce global poverty by 2015. We are halfway towards this deadline, and it is time the United States makes it a priority of our foreign policy to meet this goal and help those who are struggling day to day."

The legislation itself requires the President "to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day."

The bill defines the term "Millennium Development Goals" as the goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, General Assembly Resolution 55/2 (2000).

The U.N. says that "The commitment to provide 0.7% of gross national product (GNP) as official development assistance was first made 35 years ago in a General Assembly resolution, but it has been reaffirmed repeatedly over the years, including at the 2002 global Financing for Development conference in Monterrey, Mexico. However, in 2004, total aid from the industrialized countries totaled just $78.6 billion-or about 0.25% of their collective GNP."

In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that declaration commits nations to banning "small arms and light weapons" and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Millennium Declaration also affirms the U.N. as "the indispensable common house of the entire human family, through which we will seek to realize our universal aspirations for peace, cooperation and development."

Jeffrey Sachs, who runs the U.N.'s "Millennium Project," says that the U.N. plan to force the U.S. to pay 0.7 percent of GNP in increased foreign aid spending would add $65 billion a year to what the U.S. already spends. Over a 13-year period, from 2002, when the U.N.'s Financing for Development conference was held, to the target year of 2015, when the U.S. is expected to meet the "Millennium Development Goals," this amounts to $845 billion. And the only way to raise that kind of money, Sachs has written, is through a global tax, preferably on carbon-emitting fossil fuels.

Obama's bill has only six co-sponsors. They are Senators Maria Cantwell, Dianne Feinstein, Richard Lugar, Richard Durbin, Chuck Hagel and Robert Menendez. But it appears that Biden and Obama see passage of this bill as a way to highlight Democratic Party priorities in the Senate.

The House version (H.R. 1302), sponsored by Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), had only 84 co-sponsors before it was suddenly brought up on the House floor last September 25 and was passed by voice vote. House Republicans were caught off-guard, unaware that the pro-U.N. measure committed the U.S. to spending hundreds of billions of dollars.

It appears the Senate version is being pushed not only by Biden and Obama, a member of the committee, but Lugar, the ranking Republican member. Lugar has worked with Obama in the past to promote more foreign aid for Russia, supposedly to stem nuclear proliferation, and has become Obama's mentor. Like Biden, Lugar is a globalist. They have both promoted passage of the U.N.'s Law of the Sea Treaty, for example.

The so-called "Lugar-Obama initiative" was modeled after the Nunn-Lugar program, also known as the Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) program, which was designed to eliminate weapons of mass destruction in the former Soviet Union. But one defense analyst, Rich Kelly, noted evidence that "CTR funds have eased the Russian military's budgetary woes, freeing resources for such initiatives as the war in Chechnya and defense modernization." He recommended that Congress "eliminate CTR funding so that it does not finance additional, perhaps more threatening, programs in the former Soviet Union." However, over $6 billion has already been spent on the program.

Another program modeled on Nunn-Lugar, the Initiatives for Proliferation Prevention (IPP), was recently exposed as having funded nuclear projects in Iran through Russia.

More foreign aid through passage of the Global Poverty Act was identified as one of the strategic goals of InterAction, the alliance of U.S-based international non-governmental organizations that lobbies for more foreign aid. The group is heavily financed by the U.S. Government, having received $1.4 million from taxpayers in fiscal year 2005 and $1.7 million in 2006. However, InterAction recently issued a report accusing the United States of "falling short on its commitment to rid the world of dire poverty by 2015 under the U.N. Millennium Development Goals..."

It's not clear what President Bush would do if the bill passes the Senate. The bill itself quotes Bush as declaring that "We fight against poverty because opportunity is a fundamental right to human dignity." Bush's former top aide, Michael J. Gerson, writes in his new book, Heroic Conservatism, that Bush should be remembered as the President who "sponsored the largest percentage increases in foreign assistance since the Marshall Plan..."

Even these increases, however, will not be enough to satisfy the requirements of the Obama bill. A global tax will clearly be necessary to force American taxpayers to provide the money.

Three weeks before the 2006 midterm elections gave Democrats control of Congress, a shocking study reported on the number of Iraqis who had died in the ongoing war. It bolstered criticism of President Bush and heightened the waves of dread -- here and around the world -- about the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

Published by The Lancet, a venerable British medical journal, the study [PDF] used previously accepted methods for calculating death rates to estimate the number of "excess" Iraqi deaths after the 2003 invasion at 426,369 to 793,663; the study said the most likely figure was near the middle of that range: 654,965. Almost 92 percent of the dead, the study asserted, were killed by bullets, bombs, or U.S. air strikes. This stunning toll was more than 10 times the number of deaths estimated by the Iraqi or U.S. governments, or by any human-rights group.

In December 2005, Bush had used a figure of 30,000 civilian deaths in Iraq. Iraq's health ministry calculated that, based on death certificates, 50,000 Iraqis had died in the war through June 2006. A cautiously compiled database of media reports by a London-based anti-war group called Iraq Body Count confirmed at least 45,000 war dead during the same time period. These were all horrific numbers -- but the death count in The Lancet's study differed by an order of magnitude.

Queried in the Rose Garden on October 11, the day the Lancet article came out, Bush dismissed it. "I don't consider it a credible report," he replied. The Pentagon and top British government officials also rejected the study's findings.

Such skepticism would not prove to be the rule.

CBS News called the report a "new and stunning measure of the havoc the American invasion unleashed in Iraq." CNN began its report this way: "War has wiped out about 655,000 Iraqis, or more than 500 people a day, since the U.S.-led invasion, a new study reports." Within a week, the study had been featured in 25 news shows and 188 articles in U.S. newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times.

Editorials in many major newspapers cited the Lancet article as further evidence that the invasion of Iraq was a bad idea, and the liberal blogosphere ridiculed Bush for his response. Prominent mainstream media outlets quoted various academics who vouched for the study's methodology, including some who said they had reviewed the data before publication.

Within a few weeks a backlash rose, although the contrarian view of the study generated far less press attention than the Lancet article. In the ensuing year, numerous skeptics have identified various weaknesses with the study's methodology and conclusions. Political blogs and academic journals have registered and responded to the objections in a debate that has been simultaneously arcane and predictable. The arguments are arcane because that is the nature of statistical analysis. They are predictable because that is the nature of today's polarized political discourse, with liberals defending the Lancet study and conservatives contesting it.

How to explain the enormous discrepancy between The Lancet's estimation of Iraqi war deaths and those from studies that used other methodologies? For starters, the authors of the Lancet study followed a model that ensured that even minor components of the data, when extrapolated over the whole population, would yield huge differences in the death toll. Skeptical commentators have highlighted questionable assumptions, implausible data, and ideological leanings among the authors, Gilbert Burnham, Riyadh Lafta, and Les Roberts.

Some critics go so far as to suggest that the field research on which the study is based may have been performed improperly -- or not at all. The key person involved in collecting the data -- Lafta, the researcher who assembled the survey teams, deployed them throughout Iraq, and assembled the results -- has refused to answer questions about his methods.

Anti-Military Lawyer Damages Marine's Car on Eve of Deployment

This ought to make your blood boil. And this Marine should receive a commendation for not kicking the living crap out of the guy...seriously.

Marine Sgt Mike McNulty is on activation orders to Iraq (second tour). On December 1st, 2007, Mike went to visit a friend in Chicago before deploying to say goodbye. In order to get to his friend's residence, and keep in mind that Chicago is a myriad of diagonal and one-way streets, the front entrance (right way) to the one-way street was blocked. Mike, being a Marine, overcame and adapted by driving around the block to the other end of the street and backing up all the way to his friend's place.

While saying goodbye, at about 11am, he noticed a man leaning up against his car. Mike left his friend's apartment and caught the man keying his car on multiple sides.

After caught in the process, the man told Mike, "you think you can do whatever you want with Department of Defense license plates and tags". (In Illinois you can purchase veteran, Marine, or medal plates. Mike has Illinois Marine Corps license plates.) During the exchange, he made additional anti-military comments.

Mike called the Chicago police and had the man arrested. A citation against the man was issued for misdemeanor criminal damage to private property.

The police report (and I have copies if needed) states:

Victim related to P/O that as he walked back to his vehicle, he observed the offender leaning up against his vehicle and rubbed/dragged his left arm and hand across the passenger side. As offender walked away from victim's vehicle, victim observed a scratch along the rear trunk and passenger's door area where offender dragged his arm and hand over. Victim and witness stopped offender and confronted him. Victim has military plates and decals on his vehicle and offender made anti war and military comments to victim. Upon P/O's arrival to scene, offender denied scratch victim's vehicle, but did admit to rubbing past it. Victim at this time did not sign complaint, because he is leaving tour for military duty. Offender said they accused him of scratching the car because he is Jewish. Offender's statements/responses to P/O's questions unreasonable.

As it turns out, the man is Chicago lawyer Jay R. Grodner, who owns a law firm in the city and has offices in the suburbs.

After sending the car to the body shop, it was determined there is $2400 in damage, making this a felony. Mike went to court Friday morning to collect the damages against Mr. Grodner and file felony charges. Though the damages are over $300 (the amount which determines felony or misdemeanor) Grodner offered Mike to pay his deductible, $100, and have Mike's insurance pay for it.

My bride was a gorgeous California redhead named Rebel Holiday (yes, her born name). The dapper gentleman you see between us was serving as my best man. The reason he doesn't look like Tom Hanks is because he's the real Charlie Wilson.

When Rebel tossed her garter after the ceremony, it was Charlie who caught it.

He promptly and gallantly put it on the shapely leg of his then-fiancée, Annelise Ilschenko –who was more beautiful and classier than Julia Roberts, having been Miss USA (in 1975 at age 17). Besides, Charlie hadn't seen Joanne Herring, played by Ms. Roberts, in years.

So it was a strange experience for me to see the movie "Charlie Wilson's War," a movie portraying events I participated in, to see how it was both true and not true, magnificent and ludicrous at the same time.

First, the truth: Tom Hanks has Charlie spot on. His mannerisms, voice, posture, facial expressions: Hanks is Charlie, and he might get his third Oscar for playing him that he was denied in "Cast Away" and "Saving Private Ryan" (he along with six others have won Best Actor twice; no one has won it three times).

Further, Hanks portrays Charlie as the hero he really was. A larger-than-life, America-loving, communist-hating true-blue patriot who used his power and influence to the max to stick it to the Soviets big time. That Hollywood would make a major motion picture about a genuine anti-communist hero, about a noble anti-communist triumph over the evil communist empire of the Soviet Union is morally thrilling. The movie is magnificent.

Not taking anything away from the magnificence, it is also ludicrous.

And not just because I'm not in the movie. After all, I'm the one who explained to him how defeating the Soviets in Afghanistan could win the Cold War, not some socialite in Houston. It's that no one who had a critical role in helping the Afghans or winning the Cold War is in the movie except Charlie, whose sidekicks are a single CIA lone ranger and a blond chick in Texas – not Bill Casey, not Ronald Reagan, no one.

In fact, at the movie's end, a character lauds Charlie as a Democrat for what he has accomplished despite "a Republican president." That's the movie's only reference to Reagan, and it is negative, as if Reagan were a hindrance in Charlie's way. That's an insult to both men, for Charlie had the highest respect for President Reagan.
