Mark Steyn: Your car can't run on Congress' hot air

An excellent article on the recent congressional hearings of the oil industry:

Mark Steyn: Your car can't run on Congress' hot air

EXCERPT:

I was watching the Big Oil execs testifying before Congress. That was my first mistake. If memory serves, there was lesbian mud wrestling over on Channel 137, and on the whole that's less rigged. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz knew the routine: "I can't say that there is evidence that you are manipulating the price, but I believe that you probably are. So prove to me that you are not."

Had I been in the hapless oil man's expensive shoes, I'd have answered, "Hey, you first. I can't say that there is evidence that you're sleeping with barnyard animals, but I believe that you probably are. So prove to me that you are not. Whatever happened to the presumption of innocence and prima facie evidence, lady? Do I have to file a U.N. complaint in Geneva that the House of Representatives is in breach of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?"

Barack Obama Bloviates On Getting Other Countries "ok"

Obama camp spies endgame in Oregon

Excerpt:

Pitching his message to Oregon's environmentally-conscious voters, Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming, and develop new technologies at home which could be exported to developing countries.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

Huh? Since when did we have to seek other countries approval for how much we eat, what we drive, and what temps we choose to warm our homes? We are a free and independent country that does not seek out the "ok" of foreign countries for personal matters such as this, much less anything else.

And Obama calls it "leadership" to seek out the "ok" of other countries for that????

Radical Chicano Group (La Raza) Gets Millions in Earmarks

An extremist Mexican "La Raza" group that annually gets millions of U.S. federal grant dollars will receive even more in the next few years thanks to Massachusetts Democrat Barney Frank's multi million-dollar earmark to council Hispanics about housing. La Raza already gets millions from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for "comprehensive housing counseling" for Hispanics whether they are in the country LEGALLY OR NOT. Frank is giving the National Council of La Raza, which has raked in millions of taxpayer dollars over the year, $5 million dollars this year and $10 million over the next two years. In fiscal year 2006 alone, the group got $15.2 million in federal grants. Americans ahould be outraged that their tax dollars are going to a group that not only advocates open borders but says that California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and parts of Colorado and Texas belong to Aztlan. The takeover plan is referred to as the "reconquista" of the Western United States and it features ethnic cleansing of Americans, Europeans, Africans and Asians once the area is taken back. It may sound crazy but the organization is very powerful and its leaders regularly attend congressional hearings regarding immigration.

An Obvious Plant In A Hillary Clinton Campaign Stop

The Hillary Clinton campaign has planted a shill in the audience for Hillary to "respond" to. No doubt Hillary was rehearsed on how to adress this plant.

Clinton Confronted With 'Pandering' Sign at Rally

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., held a small outdoor rally in Gastonia, N.C., and was greeted with a sign that read “A Gas Tax Holiday is Blatant Pandering.” Instead of ignoring the sign, Clinton read it out to the audience and defended her position.

“Now, I see that sign over there. A guy's got a sign that’s saying ‘A Gas Tax Holiday is Blatant Pandering.’ Now, I’ll tell you what. I’d rather have the oil companies pay the gas taxes than you pay the gas taxes this summer. I'll tell you something else. When the Federal Reserve and the Federal Treasury bailed out Bear Sterns to the tune of $30 billion, I didn’t hear about it being pandering.”

Then, Clinton took her opponent on indirectly, referencing her latest attack ad that points out Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., saying that the gas tax would save “just pennies.” Clinton has been saying that American families, according to her research, would save up to $70, and she's pointed out how important this is to families across America.

The senator got a bit more heated when she continued to address the idea that her plan was just pandering. “How about recognizing that, for many people, they count those pennies every single week. Now, it’s easy if you don’t have to worry how much gas costs. It’s not as simple. If you go to the grocery store and buy whatever you want, you don’t have to worry about what’s going in the cash register. But that’s not the way most Americans are living.”

Cool tool for bloggers (free IP block service)

From Conservativeunderground.com

A free IP block service.

http://toolator.com/ban/index.php

Pretty simple to use. Just sign up, enter IP addresses to block (and pick a website to redirect them to), and add a little bit of code to your blog (right at the top is probably best so it's the first thing that loads). I tested it out with my own IP and it works.

I currently have the two blocked IPs (from an abusive troll who recently has been leaving his favorite gay porn pics in my blog's comments) redirected to DU. Anyone have any suggestions for better sites?
